The recent news is that the satellite rights of Karan Johar’s Agneepath were sold for a staggering amount of Rs. 41 crore to Zee Network, beating the Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor-Rani Mukerji-starrer Dhuan – bought for Rs. 38-40 crore by Sony Entertainment – and Shahrukh Khan’s RA.One, purchased for Rs. 35 crore by Star Network. In fact, the dancing superstar breaks his own record at this game. Hrithik’s last film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara pocketed Rs. 31 crore for its satellite and music rights combined, and the film he did for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Guzaarish, made Rs. 20 crore from satellite rights. However, it is best not to mention the over-hyped Kites here. Coming back to Agneepath, according to sources, apart from the fact that the film’s promo is generating a lot of curiosity and showing great promise, Zee shelled out the hefty price to break successful filmmaker Karan Johar’s strong affiliation with rival broadcasting channels.
