John Abraham to get engaged in April

Abraham plans to make it official with girlfriend Priya Runchal next year
Bipasha Basu waited nine years for John Abraham to commit to marriage before eventually parting ways with him earlier this year. But new girlfriend Priya Runchal seems to have done the impossible by getting him to finally mend his ways. Sources say John is very serious about his new lady love and wants to make it official by getting engaged as early as April 2012, followed by a wedding at the end of the year.

Post his very public breakup, the 38-year-old actor has suffered an image-bashing over stories of how he left Bips in the lurch after all these years, with some even claiming he had been unfaithful. And now, when she's clearly moved on, John wants to prove a point to the world. In recent times, he's often been quoted saying he's looking forward to settling down soon. Sources insist he is totally smitten by his 26-year-old financial analyst girlfriend and wants to show the world he's not the Casanova he's been projected to be. We wonder if Priya is banking on it?

I do one film a year: John Abraham

John Abraham
John Abraham strives to excel in every character he plays and therefore restricts his work to one film a year.

Though he is 38, the actor doesn't feel the need to run after films as he feels secure in his space. Nowadays Fridays are not only about new movies, they are also about new faces and most actors are signing films after films to consolidate their position in the industry. John is however taking it easy as he wants to give his best to every project he takes up.

"I'm a very secure person. I've always been told by people, 'You are a commercial hero, just go out there and your film will be a hit.' But I have always done one film a year because I feel that you need to put effort in your character in every film," John told.

"As an artist that's what we strive for. Everything requires an honest shot. If I keep churning out films like a soap factory, I don't think I'm going to enjoy working. People like me because they feel that I do different things. They respect me for that," he added. John, who made waves with his roles in films like "Dhoom", "Dostana" and " New York", could not manage a hit in his last three releases - "Aashayein", "Jhoota Hi Sahi" and "7 Khoon Maaf". But the actor is now looking forward to his action-romance film "Force", which is a remake of Tamil hit "Kaakha Kaakha". The film is slated for a Friday release and is about a dutiful cop and his encounters with a dreaded gangster. With "Force", directed by Nishikanth Kamath, John is returning to the action genre after years and for the role he modelled his body on Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone. "After 'Dhoom' people expected me to do action," said John who took a break from the genre as he feels "there is a time and place for everything and I think I'm more mature as an actor now. Even bodily I'm far more fit; I've understood my body better now". "For this film, I was very clear that I don't want to do cable action. I wanted to do real, raw action, something that Sylvester Stallone did in 'Rocky'.

So I wanted to do that level of action and I wanted to look like him. That's what I concentrated on," added the actor who also worked in Deepa Mehta's period drama "Water". "The important thing was that I needed to look the part of the cop I'm playing in 'Force'. Nishikanth briefed me saying, 'I want you to look like an international Hollywood star, like Stallone with a body that looks like a machine.'" he added. And it was not easy-the actor had to work overtime and extremely hard to attain a physique that suited the character. "For 'Aashayein' I lost 16 kg and for 'Force' I put on 12 kg. I worked really hard for eight months, three hours a day work out. There is no short cut to a body like this," he said.

I want to get married: John Abraham

A lot of things have changed in the life of John Abraham. He has not only developed his meso-ectomorph body for Nishikant Kamath's next film Force, but also looking forward to a fresh new beginning with films like Shootout At Wadala and Desi Boyz.

While the actor has surely reached an enviable physical state, the same cannot be said about his emotions.

Opening up about his decade-long relationship with Bipasha Basu, the actor told Mumbai Mirror, "Whatever had to happen has happened. I think we needed to move on. And we did just that." Denying all speculations about John cheating on Bipasha being the reason behind the breakup, the actor said, "Speculations and perceptions are usually wrong. This one is no exception. I respected Bipasha when she was in my life. I still respect her when she is not in my life."

Bipasha seems to have no such inclinations to even greet her ex. The actresshad famously said, "I don't believe in wasting a minute over someone who doesn't value me." The actor however, said that he doesn't believe in washing his dirty linen in public. "Bipasha and I respected what we had. We are now in different spaces. Think of it, what's the point in tracing backwards?" quipped John.

Does it hurt to hear about her linkups with Rana Daggubatti, Josh Hartnett and Shahid Kapoor? He said, "If she is happy in whatever she is doing, that's all that matters."

Bipasha may have moved on, but what about John? Denying all rumours about him dating a certain Priya Marwah, the actor said, "There is no Priya Marwah. She doesn't exist. At least in my life."

And what about Deepika Padukone? "I am overtly fond of Deepika. She is a lovely girl. But I was certainly not dating her. I have nothing to lose when these rumours make headlines. I just feel bad for the girls involved," replied the actor.

"I don't want to be known as a guy who is roaming around with five women. I was very fair in my relationship with Bipasha. I guess I need to change a bit now. I'll speak more frequently and clearly hereafter," revealed the actor about his plans for the future.

He also revealed that he wouldn't mind falling in love again. "I really don't know what my life holds for me. I am very happy with my present state of being. But I can fall in love again," said John and surprised us by adding, "I want to get married," and quickly followed it up with, "Yes, I have this tag of the sexiest man but married men are attractive too."

John Abraham: A Force to be reckoned with

John Abraham's upcoming film Force is a remake of the Tamil film Khaka Khaka. It is directed by Nishikant Kamath and also stars Genelia D'Souza. John proved that he has the best butt in the industry by showing it off in Dostana, and in Force, he wants to prove that he has one of the best bodies in the industry.

John speaks about the hard work that went into getting a body like his inspiration, Sylvester Stallone, and who he thinks has the best bod in the business.

What did you do to get this chiselled body?

I started shooting for Force more than a year ago. Nishikant Kamath gave me a brief and eight months to build my body and get into a shape never seen before in Hindi cinema. I took him very seriously and my trainer Vinod Channa trained me. Without his help, it would not have been possible.

I've had to gain weight and lose weight with every film. Nishikant said 'John, I want a body that is international, something like Sylvester Stallone.' I trained at odd hours, sometimes after 12 at night, sometimes in the morning at 4 and 5 am. I ate about 35 eggs a day and followed a strict diet.

Is it difficult to maintain a perfect body?

It is difficult to maintain this body because I have a tendency to lose weight. I have lost around 10 to 12 kilos in three-four months. It is difficult for me to gain weight. It took me about nine months to put on 10-12 kilos of pure muscle by just a high protein intake.
